3com 3c905 NIC is detect but wont work

Hi there,

I think this problem may be a M/b bios thingy... but i thought i would ask.

I have a small home server with a jetway 993AS motherboard in it. recently I have upgraded some parts. 2 of which are 2 x 3com Nic's.

1 for my cable modem and the other for my home network. the problem i have is the new nic for the modem (DHCP assigned) will only work if I have it in certain PCI slot (I have to move the other nic up a space aswell). this is not good because i need the 1st pci slot for my 3ware raid card when it turns up.

any1 got any suggestions.

p.s. i have tried coyote linux boot disc and slackware 9

cheer all

Sounds like some goofiness on the board, pure voodoo really as far as suggestions go. You may want to go into the board's bios and see if you can hand assign IRQs to each of the PCI slots, that may clear it up, if it doesn't post back with a chunk of dmesg with all of the cards in it...

Cheers,

In the pdf userguide for the 3c905 it says:

(sorry direkt translation from dutch)
REMARK: Do not place the card in a shared PCI-slot. Do not use a PCI-slot next to a ISA-slot ( often a slot like that is a shared slot that does not support bus-mastering )
