Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

3c2000 Driver - Weird Problem

I have a 3com 3c940 embedded lan running on an ASUS P4P800 with Fedora CORE. I compiled and installed the drivers as directed, now here's the weird part:

If I leave the machine on DHCP, all network functions work perfectly well, but if I switch to fixed IP (which I need to do) then the network starts hanging all over the place, applications take up to 30 seconds to load, and the machine is basically non functional. Any ideas???

thanks,

Patrick
