I use simplymepis 6.5 with kde 3.5(i think)
the thing is i hav an old version of it, simplymepis 2004 (kde 2.6.7) now in the 2004 one, i can use the kppp tool to recognize my modem, no sweat, and use my SB live 5.1 SE pretty well, now when i come to the new version, the kppp tool doesnt seem to find the modem and iv tried ALL the ports, even those wich dont make sense, and the sound card sometime is detected fine but on some boots i cant get it to function, also on the new one, i cant seem to save shortcuts to my desktop, u know of mounted hardrives and stuff......
pls help, btw m a newbie and i heard of some porgram called modem scan , i downloaded it but i dont know how to compile it, is there some graphic way to compile it? i dont know the CLI commands to do it....

scanModem is a script, you don't need to compile it.
You untar it, make it executable, and run it by entering ./filename

Is this modem, then, a PCI (internal) modem?

enter:

cat /etc/wvdial.conf

But it sounds like you have a buggy install.
