xscreensaver hangs on entering a wrong password on fedora 2

Hi,
I have fedora core 2 installed and whenever I enter a wrong password,
xscreensaver simply stops responding. It does not refresh the screen.
I tried: xscreensaver-command -exit
but that says that xscreensaver is not responding.
If I kill it, I am not able to use the mouse or keyboard or both. I have to
restart xserver.
Here are the details:
Linux peewink 2.6.9-1.6_FC2smp #1 SMP Thu Nov 18 22:20:16 EST 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
xscreensaver 4.14, copyright (c) 1991-2003 by Jamie Zawinski <jwz@jwz.org>

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions,
Chandresh
