XFCE action equivalent under Fluxbox/Xorg ?

[ Note: I know Fluxbox and Xorg are not from the same class. Read on please.]

When I issue "startx", the screen goes black, then a white/grey/black miriad of dots appear.. giving a "flickering" feeling. Afterwards fluxbox is brought up. If I start an xterm, I can see the writing every here and there "flickering" a bit [I can even see it here in FireFox whilst I'm typing this message.]. Now. In XFCE I remember having a menu that allowed me to set the resolution+frequency. Would I select "1280x1024 @ 60 HZ"; the flickering would go away. Problem is.. I have no idea how to do this with Fluxbox.. or configure Xorg directly. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes. Well. I already knew how to set the resolution to 1280x1024. The fix was this:

Code:
        VertRefresh 60.0
