Writing a bootable CD on gtoaster

I am new to this whole burning a boot CD, so I was wondering if I could get some help.

In gtoaster, you can select a file or directory to be bootable. But what do I select to make the CD bootable?

For example, if you have Mandrake install disc, which one of these do I select? The /boot file?

I tried that, and it did not work.

No dont worry abou that part all you have to do is click image file and choose the image. After that goto the other tab (i dont have linux now i can tell you exactly where) but it says 'make cd bootable' check that. and combust!

I am assuming that by image file, you are talking about the floppy.bin?

I tried specifing the whole CD as bootable, and just that file. Neither work. And when I select just the floppy.bin file, it only burns that file. That is so confusing.

Let me explain what I am doing. If you are familiar with the file structure, then maybe you can help me even further?

I copied MDK 7.2 core disk to my hard drive. I wanted to delete some files and add some files, and play with burning a bootable CD. The only thing I see that makes it run is the autorun.bat file, which I think is only for windows. But where is the boot image? Am I right on it being floppy.bin, or is it something else?

I recently burned the redhat 7.2 iso using xcdroast. I pondered the bootable options, but when selected, it started asking what sort of bootable etc. Basically the iso should be bootable anyway, you need to add the bootable stuff if you're making your own iso's. I just burned the iso as it was, and it worked.

So are you saying I need to create an .iso file first, then select that as bootable?

I am assuming that if you have the MDk core disk, that would be the bootable install 1 disk. If so, you should be able to move stuff around inside the iso image file, then burn it as usual.
Could be very wrong though!

You know I was just remembering that when you put files into the gtoaster, it automatically gives it an iso file system. Wouldnt that be what I am wanting? And if so, how come nothing is bootable?

Well you will need the complete image and in the image there should be another image which is probably the floppy.bin. Anyways they explain it a lot better here then I could:

If you've got a downloaded install disk, its already an iso, so if you make it into an iso, it'll be a cd with an iso image file on it, not bootable.

Well its not a downloaded iso disk file. I actually copied the contents of the CD iteself from Cd to hard disk into a file folder.

That website leads to an article i will print out, but it does not actually tell me how to do this from the GUI frontends. I really try to avoid command lines. Do you knwo the equivelents?

OK, I copied a floppy boot.img to my CD, then burned it, and it still aint bootin'. It was in the root file structure, which is what those instructions said.

I can honestly say that the answer to my problems, which may seem elusive to me, will in fact probably end up being really simple and easy, therefor making me feel like a dope.

I really hope it doesnt turn out that way though.
