Thumbs up Woohoo!!

K, I know most of you don't really care, but I AM OFFICIALLY RHCE!! I took the test on Friday, and let me tell you it is brutal, but I passed it! They said I had to wait 2 weeks to get the results, but they managed to get them to me today, and I thank god cause I have been Dreaming, and tossing and turning trying to figure out if I passed or not. Just wanting to let the world know! Also I wanted to thank everybody on this board for all the help you guys provided, without it I don't know that I could have made it!

THANK YOU!!!!

Mike.

No need to get paid, I am just pleased I got it, it is more of a personal thing than a career thing, although it will indeed help the career. I am gonna start working on other distro's now too, I know they don't all have certs but I have a copy of Suse here that a friend gave me and I figured I might as well branch out. I also want to do one of those Build Your Own linux distro's (what's that officially called, I forget) we'll see how that goes.

I'm fixing to take this myself - I've heard that it is hard.. but I have yet to take a test that is really hard.. I'm already a CCNP, MCSE, CNE and a few others, and everyone said those were really hard, but I guess my definition of REALLY hard is different that others.. LOL Not trying to say I know anything, so please nobody get that idea.. I'm far from that.

But I am curious to know how hard it would be compared to maybe another test(s) .. not sure if you have other certs or not. I'd hate to thing I know RedHat, and walk in and $800 later, fail miserably, which I have done that on a few tests.. thinking I know it, and turns out they ask you all the BS know one cares about.

Do they throw problems at you on the hands-on parts, or is it just setting up stuff? If you could fill me in on what to expect, that would be awesome! I'm the same with you, not really a career thing, but a personal thing, but it sure wouldn't HURT my career .. LOL.

congrats... i've been looking into certs, but money's a bit too tight at the moment. i hadn't heard anything about how difficult the red hat cert was - only that it makes msce look like a cakewalk (which it is...)

lfs is probably the best way to learn linux, imho. you get to break everything and learn how to fix it...

Well, I can't give out specifics of the test cause of the confidentiality agreement, but I can tell you basics.

The test is divided into 3 parts, Debug, where they give you a broken computer and you have to fix it, Written which is a multiple choice test on various system items, and an Install where they give you a real life scenario and you have to meet spec. Now let me tell you, I have never left a test with such a rush!

I have heard that Microsofts tests don't compare to this one, and it is ranked very high in comparison to others out there. Many people who I have met with years of experience come in expecting a cake walk and leave wondering how they did (the test can be like a cold shower to the over confident). One of the guys this time, said he thought he would do well but he didn't expect such a hard test. Almost everybody who left the testing room left with a sigh to release the tension. You are limited in time in this test so it's similar to having the CEO of your company breathing down your neck. Now if you really know your stuff it is a challenging test and pushes your limits, but you will do well.

I really don't know what else to tell you, except study no matter how much you think you know. It is a pricy test. This is my first certification so I can't compare from experience, and I know that Microsoft has really tightened down the standards, but I have heard this test is ranked first in difficulty above the CCNA. Here's a site that compares a number of certifications and RedHat ranks within the top 3 for most categories, many times it is first, the only time it falls out of top three is for price I believe, it's not cheap.

http://www.certmag.com/issues/jan02/feature_sosbe.cfm

I don't want it to sound like the test is impossible, cause it isn't impossible at all. It is there to test if you are capable of RHCE quality operations, and it tests this well. It tests your recall cause you don't always have the resources you would normally have in front of you, and it tests your control cause it will challenge you and get your nerves going. I think it is a test that does what it is designed to do, very well.

Fair play to you mikeyt_333
I'd well believe it was hard.
I got an MCP after a couple of hour's of doing braindump's & could not have cared less whether I passed it or not (I got 54% & it's 54% to pass)

What I am interested in is Linux certification.

Did you or anyone else do any of the LPI -->"'Linux professional institute" exam's.
Unfortunately doing an RHCE is a bit out of my league FOR NOW..
I can sit a LPI exam for 100 euro's here in Dublin & I'll pay out of my own pocket if compaq dont, which they probably wont

Has anyone done any LPI's ??

That sounds allright trickykid
I've come across a few employment agencies offering good money for people with very little Solaris experience, I'd love to see how much someone experienced could make
(though I am far from an expert)
Good Luck
