Question Windows XP and Linux system

I have installed Windows XP and then Linux Red Hat 8.0. I listes DOS as the default boot so windows will boot unless I highlite Linux. The problem is that when I get to that screen and it says that I should move the up or down arrows to change the boot drive, it will not let me move the cursor to the linux, and it times out and just keeps going back into windows XP. Does anybody have any thoughts on fixing this problem.
Thank you
