because they are totally different types of filesystem and just work differently. personally i wouldn't thing that the speed of a format is anything to be particuarly interested in. be more interested in the perfomance long term
Thanks for your reply, I think the speed of the format process is somehow an important factor at least for me, I appreciate if someone can explain why there is a big difference between the time required to format a partition as ext3 and that of reiserfs format.
