I am running Red Hat 7.3 on P2 with 266 mhz and a riva tnt.
I am using GNOME and default games that come with the distribution like Maelstrom, run so slow that it takes almost a min for Graphicks on a screen to move. I never seen a game run so slow. That is a 2D game.
I would like to run Quake 3, how do I speed up things?
P 266 isn't bad with Riva tnt (well it sux for Q3 but 2d games must run smoothly).
Also, if you are using a distro like redhat, there's probably a lot of stuff going on that you don't really need to be going on. do a "ps -e | less" to get a glimps of what is happening behind the scenes. Then you can research on how to disable some features.
etcetera, and variable I suppose, in /etc you usually would find configuration files, and in /var files that are replaced often like logs, etc. (he here is a reference to etcetera)
