Where is ~/.xsession ?

This has got to be a really basic question.
~ is supposed to mean home [I think]
but when I go to home I can't find a single x x11 or X11r6 file
I can find them in other places but since it's not ~ I'm totally lost.

I fear that the other x* files/directories I find are not the proper ones to alter for different functions.

How does one tell.

Suse 9.0 pro
PIII
513mhx
13g drive
128 ram
trying to use FVWM over a gnome
struggling.

That . before the file means that it is a hidden file. Set your file directory...whatever you use...Konqueror for ex. to show hidden files.

Also the a swith for ls will show hidden files

ls -a /home/yourdir

yes, ~/ is a shortcut for your home dir

what exactly do you want to do? which config files to modify will depend on the prog - some changes are system-wide, while others local to each user.

you can trace down all the available files used at x startup
there are system wide (default) ones and then everybody has the option of having special user specific ones

just go
emacs `which startx`

and follow the paper trail

Yikes!
Well first thanks- though I suspect as always i need a bit more information too.
The answer to what do I want to do?
I need to put some modifications to my FVWM2
I have been given the lines to enter but then couldn't find the file to enter them into.
Also to foo_bar_foo there's only me so I'm not sure how to use what you are saying. Or if, since there is only me, does that change your/the other's answers?
Thanks
Jay
