Thanks dor that, I put linux in an extended partition. Unfortunately the system freezes on boot when loading pcmcia, if the pcmcia card is in. Any ideas where to look (rc.conf looks ok)

What kind of card is it?

Did you try putting it in after it boots?

Its a 3com 3c3fem556c modem/ethernet pcmcia card. On boot it hangs at :-
"Starting external PCMCIA (using scheme: SuSE)"
If I boot without PCMCIA card inserted all is fine but when I insert the card the sytstem locks up.

The card worked fine in the old laptop with suse 7.2
