I got this error during compilation:
./texc.script: ed: command not found

what is ed? it sounds like the name of a text editor. I can't find it by searching ed is too common a string. Anyone know anything about it?

during the compilation of what? What's your distro? What's were you trying to compile?

Be more specific.

IIRC, ed is a commandline (only?) text editor. That is, it doesn't have an interface... any editing of files (or editing of text passed through it in a pipe) is done on the command line. It's quite common in some larger scripts, so it's a good idea to have it installed.

for once that was a perfectly accurate and concise question (although simple google search would have given the answer), being more specific wouldn't have benefitted anyone.

Accually, it was quite hard to find ed on google. I had done quite an extensive search before coming here like I always do. The string "ed" shows up in every document so no matter what other words I put with it there was also the string "ed" in every document that possesed the other strings I used to narrow down the search. I finally did stumble upon it though, after much searching.

I had to know that it is a text editor in order to find it. I think "ed basic text editor" does the trick.

"linux ed" does the trick.
