Do you mean as in a shell? Such as BASH? Go to google and look up BASH commands.

1. if you know the command name X; from the shell
Code:
whatis X
2. if you need more details try manpages
Code:
man X
or google: "man X" to get it in a friendly format
3. if you want to know which commands are doing X.
Code:
apropos X
4. more than man, try info
Code:
info X
5. Google is you friend
6. The Linux Documentation Project http://www.tldp.org/
7. read a book! believe me: it's not a waste

Yeah books really come in handy as a quick reference so you don't have to go looking around and waste valuable time, especially textbooks, college textbooks. Too bad mine got stolen.
