I've never used webmin, but if you look @ /etc/services you'll see the port for webmin. do "cat /etc/services | grep webmin". when you have that... go to your browser and do http://<ip-address>:<port>
Again, i've never used this, but that's how other web-interface configuration stuff is ( samba is http://127.0.0.1:901 )
Sorry , i am still ignore to config it.
How to enable the webmin function? Do i need to add the port 10000 to the /etc/services file? How to use browser to run webmin? Thx.
Did you read all of the install instructions? here's a couple of things that are pretty standard w/ network stuff:
add a line like "webmin 1000/tcp" in /etc/services.
now, i don't know if webmin uses xinet for the network connection, but if it does, you'll need to add a file to /etc/xined.d/ something like this:
service webmin
{
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
user = root
port = 1000
server = <path to server executable>
}
or, if you don't have a /etc/xinet.d/ directory, add the above to the /etc/xinetd.conf file (that's what I use)
then you'll need to restart xinet w/ /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart
(that path might not be the same on your system, but check for something similat... the init.d/xinetd part should be right)
then from a browser, do "http://127.0.0.1:1000" and hopefully tha'll work.
Again... I've never used webmin... PEOPLE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG!
If you have the program installed all you need to do is type in the address bar is your host name and local port. For example I use webmin .99 so when I want to use it on my local host all I do is type in
localhost:1000
Webmin will then pop up in the web browser and ask me for my user name and password. As for setting thos up I don't remeber. I use it at home and not on a network so I log in as root.
