vnc + video players

I can play mpeg video files just fine with plaympeg, normally. However, when I log into the system via VNC, it gives me this error message:

Warning: couldn't init SDL video: found no sufficiently capable X11 visuals
Ignoring video stream

Is there a way to make video playing work? it's not just plaympeg, either - xine gives a similar message, and nothing happens.

It would be pretty cool if I could sit across the room from my linux desktop with the win2k laptop, log in via vnc, play the music vids that would then display on the desktop, and go back to work .
(I would, of course, have to be logged into the vnc server on my desktop as well.)
