Hi.
May be I download a .html file from the web and the file name has
a kilometric length. Then I write it to cd-rom. But then I find
the name has been truncated (Joliet has an upper bound for the
number of chars in the name). As a consecuence, the files under
the directory of the same name, such as the .gif, become inaccessible.
Is there a solution?
To add to Tinkster's suggestion to shorten the filename, you may have to edit the .html code. Look for long file or directory names that need to be made shorter, especially references to the directory name in which the .gifs are located.
And with the use of Joliet & Rock Ridge the 8.3 names can be
made longer. Read "man mkisofs" - search for "Rock Ridge"
and/or "Joliet" for details, and then decide what you want
to do with the filenames ;}
Hi.
I started this thread and have found a solution. Before I
give it: by kilometric names I mean names more than 100
chars in length. These names happen to occur when, in an
internet page, one uses the browser's File>Save Page As
menu. Here a dialog box opens. And the solution is simply,
within the dialog box, to edit the name to a proper length.
The new name can be any name, subject to the specification
of the standard being used.
The o.s., or someone else, will take care that the path
name written into the html is the same as the path of the
directory under which the "ancillary" files reside.
