User Access Denied

I came home from work today, and went to grab some news from Pan, just to find that it had closed itself. So I tried to open it up again, nothing...opened it up in the console under my normal user account and it told me

(Null) - Cannot open font file for font Bitstream Vera Sans 10
(Null) - Cannot open fallback font, nothing to do

So I thought, odd, I was going to Google it.....Firefox won't open either

So I tried just about every program (konqueror, k3b, etc all work) other than the ones that shipped with my distro (Mandrake 10.1), and nothing will work...the things I've tried are Pan, Firefox, and Gaim. All these programs open up fine when I log in as root, though. I'm kind of stumped, everything was working fine, and then it all decided to die while I was at work...for no apparent reason. A restart didn't help anything.

I'm using Mandrake 10.1 (or Mandriva, whichever you prefer) and FVWM2. I don't believe the .xinitrc worked in my ~/ either (non-root home dir). I'm pretty stumped here, any suggestions welcome I really don't want to download all those headers over again

Thanks!

Just thought I would follow-up with the solution to this problem:

Apparently, what happened was my font cache got confused. After renaming my ~/.fonts.cache-1 and letting it make a new one, everything works nicely Odd.
