Usb thumb drive not reading free space correctly

I have a usb stick that I put my micro sd card into and whats happening is its not reading the space correctly. For instance I deleted a 64mb file to put on a 32mb file and it continues to say not enough space. Any help would be appreciated.

What does 'df' show when the drive is mounted? Did you delete from console or file manager?

If you did "Trash" it, did you make sure to empty the trash?
