USB Hard disk problems

I am having problems using my Archos Jukebox 6000 in conjunction with linux. It is a combination mp3 player and usb hard drive. When I plug it into the usb port and turn it on, the computer recognizes it as a scsi disk and I am able to mount it as root using

mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdisk/

The mount works, and I begin copying my mp3 files over. It copies for a while and then says

cp: cannot create regular file `whatever filename is': Read-only filesystem.

I don't understand this because I've already copied a number of files. I umount it, and then try to mount it again with the same line. It says:

mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

The mp3 player is still indicating that the USB connection is active. I'm stuck, Any ideas?

Are getting any other error messages?
And are you using the usb-storage modules to connect with this device?

The only error messages I'm getting are the ones that I put in the last post. The "Read Only file system" one, and the "invalid block device".

I was using info on this page:

http://bjorn.haxx.se/isd200/

and after I look at again, there's a line about using usb-uhci instead of uhci that I didn't see. I'll check that out.

When I mounted it before I didn't load any modules, and I was just assuming that the kernel was loading the correct ones. I'll get back to you if I can't figure it out.

Do "lsmod" as root to get a list of the loaded modules.

Well, I just tried it again but this time I did a

modprobe usb-uhci

before I mounted the drive. It worked for a while but then had the same `Read only file system'. The usb-storage module is loaded.

After this error happens, the only way I'm able to get it to mount again is if I reboot. Does this give you any more useful information?
