usb devices howto


gooday to all.

how can i safely unplug a usb device in linux?
and how to determine if my usb port is usb2?
thanks...

1. USB supports hotplugging: you can always safely unplug a usb device. The exact result depends on the device - for eg. USB storage media should be unmounted before unplugging.

2. To check the USB is v2 do dmesg | grep usb
This is what it looks like on my system:

usbcore: registered new driver usbfs
usbcore: registered new driver hub
usbcore: registered new driver hiddev
usbcore: registered new driver hid
drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.0:USB HID core driver
usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using address 2
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
on the third line from the bottom see "v2.0:USB" in there?
