Because 1.0 is very old, there will be problems with drivers, directory layout and many other things. I think alot of applications also won't run, because some of the system calls may be implemented differently.
Would you (If you could) replace the Windows XP kernel with the DOS 1.0 kernel. I think not.
As ntubski said, the latest version is 2.6.16, so you would be better off using that. Even Redhat 9 has a 2.4 kernel, and that is about 4 years old now. Would you be better off with Fedora Core 5?
In fact there are some overwhelming reason i have to make it run.
i use RH9.0 to compile it and hote that it can work.
The unzip problem has been solved. RH9.0 gzip's version is 1.3 and
kernel 1.0 use version 1.0.3 to zip the kernel's binary code. i search the web and find version gzip 1.0.5.
Now the kernel can unzip itself smoothly but when it invokes the function start_kernel it does't work and the BOCHS window also disappears.
i haven't find the reason. when i find there may be annother stupid problem here.
