Unresolved : Cannot access cdrom mount from any user except root???
Hi,
I still have not succeeded in working out why I cannot access the cdrom mount from a user other than root.
I installed mandrake 8.2 fresh and created a user u. I startx from the login and it boots into KDE with 2 cdrom icons on the desktop cdrom and cdrom2. cdrom is the dvd and cdrom2 is the normal cd which i need to access.
I open a shell as u and need to run runInstaller.sh on the oracle cd in the drive. I am not allowed to run this as root.
However, when I do /mnt/cdrom2/runInstaller.sh it fails to find it because I do not have permission.
If i su into root and do the same then it is fine but the script fails as I am running it as root.
I posted this previosuly and things that came back were trying to chmod 755 the /mnt/cdrom2 as root but this does not solve it simply because it will not let me perform this op and it gives an error of not being able to set perms on this as it is read only.
I would really appreciate some help on this, it is baffling me!
Your old users might not belong to the group allowed to access the files. On my old distros, my new users would automatically become part of a group that echoed their username, so if I created user linux then this user's default group was linux, not users.
