I know that we should schedule a script to monitor in crontab. My question here is different ! I want to know that is there any additional configuration required to enable mailx utility as I am not able to send email by command prompt "mailx -s 'test' abc@xyz.com" ??

Have you tried sending a msg to yourself locally ie on the same box?
Do you have the mta installed ? (assuming you meant Centos 6.10, the default would be postfix).
You'll need a forwarding mailserver address.
NB: some ISPs don't like you sending out mail unless you have a Business acct + static IP with them because of SPAM. In some cases you can but have to use the ISPs mailservers to avoid being classified as SPAM by mailservers further on down the internet.
Basically dynamic IPs are mis-trusted ...
