i have 3 hardrives..1.Xp on 4.1 GB Primary master...2.Win98 on 2.4 GB Primary slave...3.Mandrake 9.0 on 2.1 GB Secondary master...i have Bootmagic 8 installed and the Bootmagic menu shows all three. The Xp and 98 work but when i choose to boot Mandrake it shows me a black screen saying
Attempting to load Linux
Grub_
It hangs and i cannot type in any prompts or commands..it just stays this way.....Any answers out there?
It sounds like the MBR is screwed up. Did it used to work or is this a new configuration you have just setup?
I have mine setup like this.
Installed Windows 98 SE first onto the primary partition.
Installed Windows XP Pro onto the first partition on the extended partition. This created a duel boot menu.
I then install Linux on the second partition on the extended partition. I used LILO and has loads of different selections for Linux and has a label that says Windows which if I select takes me to the old duel boot menu.
It's probably trying to boot using a linux boot loader. I've never used Bootmagic, and it's probably somewhere in the config file for that where you tell it to boot using Grub or LILO or whatever...
This really isn't a linux problem, but rather a problem with bootmagic as I see it. However, you may be able to fix it by installing Grub/LILO to your first sector of your Mandrake HD (not the MBR).
thanks for the reponses...though i'm still not sure what to do..I have removable drive trays and when i use the Mandrake by itself on the Primary master it boots no problem..it's just when i chose it from the bootmagic menu when all 3 drives are in place that it won't boot...maybe i have to uninstall the Grub so bootmagic will boot it..or is that logical?
