Transfer font files?

I have 2 installation of linux (different distributions). When I load google search page, one shows proper local language fonts at bottom, while in other the fonts are garbled. Where are these font files stored and is it possible to transfer font files from one distribution to another to correct this? Thanks for your insight.

The first place I'd look is /usr/share/fonts.

You could also try the locate command.

Code:
locate font | grep usr <--or whatever
After you copy the fonts to the other computer, be sure to run fc-cache as root.

See man fc-cache for more.

captain hindsight says:
better to leave this to packet management.
e.g. on debian based systems: "apt-cache search font" and install fonts that support as many languages as possible, or as many different fonts as you need to support all languages.
that way you will get updates for those fonts.
