Tracker-miner hangs system

Hey everyone, so I know there are a lot of post about the tracker miner process. But none of these really help me diagnose my issue.

I run a Lenovo P330, nvidia p400 quadro, 16 gig memory and an Intel Core i7 @3.2 X 12

I have a large photo library, close to 2tb.

When the tracker-miner program initiates, it doesn't just slow down my system, it completely hangs it. I suspect that it's just eating up all my threads. I was wondering if there was a way to diagnose this, or at the very least beable to assign tracker-miner to a specific core using taskset?

Any help appreciated.

One of the first places I look for monitoring my system performance is htop.

Install it if it is not already installed, than open a terminal window and type htop

My concern was - when (as in how soon after boot) does it hang ?. Is there time for commands to be entered ?. Personally I always disable the thing, but the OP seems to want it running in some sense. Taskset requires a pid(s) - and needs to be done each boot/restart. I might be inclined to force it into a cgroup that has limited CPUs/cores assigned - in need that could be set from a liveCD. Presumes CPU consumption is the issue, but is usually a good start - a cgroup does allow control of I/O rate as well if required.

I don't actually need the thing running, it seems to sporadically start every few days or so. I know it indexes the drive for searching etc, but its killing my work flow when it goes off. IF I can disable it it would be ok i think.
