hi,
whenever i try start mysql, it throws the following error on the console:

/etc/init.d/mysqld start
touch: cannot touch `/var/log/mysqld.log': Permission denied
chmod: changing permissions of `/var/log/mysqld.log': Operation not permitted
Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon.
Starting MySQL: [FAILED]

ls of /var/log/mysqld.log file produces

Also I noticed that none of the messages like maillogs, messages logs are getting logged into their logs, viz, /var/log/mailllog, /var/log/messages.
If anyone wants the sysreport i can attach the same.
please guide me how to solve this
