I followed everything in this thread but no luck! Anybody else getting this problem?

Which problem? This 13-year-old (!) thread contains a couple of different problems.
Best you should start your own thread and not open a very old thread that may or may not be about the same problem you're having on a completely different version of Linux.
Please do that.
