Terminal Command History?

How do you go about clearing your command history? (Cntrl-P and Cntrl-N)

method 1: cat /dev/null > ~/.bash_history
method 2: rm ~/.bash_history && touch ~/.bash_history

Or just edit the .bash-history file and take out the trash. Thanks bud,my brain damage is setting in early tonight.
