I'm trying to tar my remote home directory from my server, but it always results in a 10kb file, whereas I have several GB in the directory.
Here is the command I'm using:
try it without ",
when i use --exclude option i put it before source directory...
tar -cvpf file.tar --exclude=/dir/dir /dir
what tar prints out after executing??
Try that and after that it just goes back to the command line. It doesn't print anything after changing it, as it didn't before. Makes no diff if I put the --exclude before or after the source.
BTW, when I remove the --exclude and add "" around the command (not the address, just what comes after), it works. So I think I need ""... but I don't know how to use them cause the --exclude addresses are already using them...
