I have a major problem with a suse9.2 partition which won't boot after grub2. It woeked fine until last week, now just a black screen. It won't even boot from the installation dvd - the kernel loads and then everything freezes with a black screen..
I've got a dual boot with XP, windows works fine, checks all the ram ok etc, no new hardware installed etc, etc..
Try changing the bios settings, to make sure that it is set to boot from a CD first, then put your installation CD. Maybe that will fix the problem of booting from the CD.
No, that's not the problem. It does boot from the dvd, but after loading the kernel it freezes up. I even left it overnight to see if it was checking some hardware for excessive times but no luck.
I have had the same problem. It began when I was still running 9.1 and did an online update of a new kernel. It seems to be related to the video drivers. I had an nVidia card when I first experienced the problem, then I changed that to an ATI card, but no joy. I bought a 9.2 upgrade. Installation went fine, but the drivers for the specific card were still not there and after the installation boot, it still does the same thing - it will boot to a certain point, then freeze with a black screen. I am still searching for a solution.
