suse 9.1 pro running kde freezes

I am running Suse 9.1 professional on a dell inspiron 600m. Everything is good, except it freezes sometimes.

This happened twice while trying to start Konqueror and once during the middle of the night, while running the screensaver. The /var/logmessages simply says "--MARK--" at 00:34:24, and then there are no more entries.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is this related to:
1. Wrong driver for my hardware?
2. Need a patch or upgrade?

Thanks,

Si Chen

Hello. I've ran a version of Suse in the past and wasn't too pleased. I think your problem may stem from lack of up to date drivers. How long have you been running Suse? Have you installed any other hardware components since then? The first thing I would look into is a driver update for your video card. That should do wonders for you. If that doesn't work you should look into whether or not your hardware is compatible with Linux. If everything checks out then you might wanna try a reinstall or better yet another distro. You might wanna look into Fedora. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions then feel free to post again.

I'm running the latest version, Suse 9.1 Professional, and have been running it for about two months.

Should I use yast2 to get the updates?

I would just go to your nvidia or ati website and download them. And also......
1. Have you installed any other hardware components since then?
2. look into whether or not your hardware is compatible with Linux.

Installing your drivers can be a little tricky though. Before you install them you should look read the documentation then comes with them so that you can know what you're doing. Intalling video card drivers in Linux is nothing like Windows.
