John VV responded with my go to on Kali, "a distro made by EXPERTS!!! for use BY EXPERTS!!!!" (Much over my head and constantly evolving...)
Most of the pentesters I know just use their native distro and add the handful of programs that they need to pentest, creating whatever else they need. Mostly computer science guys. Now, on various forums, including this one, and reddit, it seems like the majority of people that used Backtrack/Kali are script kiddies and beginners looking to be l33t haxors, but don't know how to write their own tools. So I would disagree that it is for Experts.

I wouldn't like installing those tools on my day to days, encrypted VMs if I do.

BT rc5 used
user = root
password = toor

the live kali still uses toor ( unless this was changed in the last year)
