strange x problems

I'm not sure why I'm having this problem. In the X manager my mouse moves real slow, often freezing up for about 30secs. I shut my server down moved it to a different room hooked it up and it worked fine. 2 weeks later (today) I moved it back to the original room and now I'm having this problem. I'm using the same mouse, keyboard, everything. I didn't change anything, I pluged everything in started the computer and tried running X. Mouse was/is still freezing up. Root account can't even load X now, it just freezes and Crtl+Atl+Backspace causes even more problems. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

I would suggest electrical interference. Apparently if you move a transistor radio jobby around near the PC, you'll get more static near problem devices.

Having a halogen lamp with a dimmer on the same circuit as your computer can bring you hours of fun!

Seriously though, if there is no obvious sign of interference you might want to open the box and reseat all cards and cabling; perhaps moving it is just making/breaking a weak connection somewhere. If that doesn't help, I'd move it to yet a third location as a test. If it works in two out of three places, you'll need to examine the power/electrical situation of the problematic location more closely.

BTW- these are just your basic, wired flavor of mouse and keyboard (no wireless/IR stuff going on), right?

mouse problem fixed

Thanks for all the suggestions. It turns out it was not Linux of course but the crappy Microsoft mouse. I switched mice and everything works fine. Should have done that in the first place.
