Speech recognition for Linux - backdoor?

For me the lack of speech recognition in Linux is a major obstacle to switching from Windows XP, and I have been following developments in this area. I have not seen any encouraging posts from the Linux people working on this, but I would like to throw out a question here.

Microsoft Office now provides speech recognition that is extremely accurate and easy to use. Can Wine or any other Linux product run Microsoft Office 2003 yet? This might offer a backdoor route for Linux speech recognition.

I did get hold of a copy on an old Mandrake distro, but not being a programmer, I could never get it to run properly. The distro wouldn't detect my sound card or my USB sound pod, and I just gave it up as a bottomless pit.

No Office 2003 won't run on Wine yet.
