Sound just works under root account

Hi!
I've just set up my Debian distro, and installed the nforce2-sounddriver included in Kernel 2.6.6. The problem is, that i just got sound output when logged in as root, as I cannot get access to /dev/mixer from my everyday account. tkmixer just says that it cannot gain access to the mixer device, and kmixer displays an empty window. Under root, everything works fine.
Has anyone an idea on how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance,
thorax

You probably need to add your regular user (or users who you wish to be able to hear sound) to the audio group. Check usermod on how to do this

Try:

chmod 777 /dev/mixer
chown 777 /dev/mixer
chmod 777 /dev/dsp
chown 777 /dev/dsp
