Basically to get my sound working I will have to recompile the kernal, but even with my Slackware 8, the kernal is pretty old compared to the new ones today.. SO I was wondering how hard it is to compile a kernal?
Very true, it is quite simple if you don't let it intimidate you, AND it's easier to recompile the kernel in Slack than any other distro i've tried. It's up to you to get the kernel source you want and know what hardware settings you'll need in the config screen, but the main runthrough of commands is:
make menuconfig
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
make bzlilo
Reboot and you're grooovy! Why can't it be so easy in fact, with other distros and thier specific kernels?

i would have to agree with you, i recompile kernels in slack with more ease than any other distro i have ever done it on... i even have easier time installing packages and programs than any other distro... its just that Slack rules when it comes to any others...

Preach on!! LOL I just don't know what the trick yet is to recompiling a RH or Mandrake kernel. It's supposedly easier, but then everything breaks! =(
