Hi, On slackware 10.1, I can't connect to the network or the network using eth0. I'm using NForce 2 MCP on the ASUS A78NX-X motherboard. How am i able to connect to the network/internet.
Is your card detected? What does "ifconfig eth0" (typed in at a command prompt -- no quotes) say? You'll also need to give us details about your network, do you get IP addresses via DHCP or do you have to set them statically, for instance.
I have the same motherboard and have never had any problems. Like btmiller said, give us more info about your connection. DHCP, PPPoE, Static IP etc and we should be able to get you setup
I tried netconfig and i clicked on dhcp and it asked me to input the info for assigned DHCP CC-NUMBER-AA (I don't know what that means). On windows, when i insert my ethernet cord, it automatically assigns to DHCP. On slackware, it didn't. I tried inputting my ip address, netmask, and gateway and it still won't work (using simple IP), but I want dhcp so that it can automatically assign to the dhcp.
Dod you run "ifconfig eth0"? What did it show? Also, try pinging another computer on your home LAN (if you have one). If that works, you probably just need to set your gateway and nameservers. I've never got the "dhcp.conf file not found error". It makes me suspect that your NIC isn't being detected properly, which ois why we need the output of "ifconfig eth0".
