simple desktop effects with wmctrl - any examples?

I'm exploring the possibilities of using wmctrl for simple desktop effects/animations, e.g. windows smoothly "grows" or "shrinks" when maximized/minimized, or shrinks down to the smallest possible point before closing or making the window border flash when focused. Those kind of things. Looking for examples, advice, etc.
Thanks ahead - Patrick
