I tried googling and searching this forum for this one.. I've been having a terrible time digging the answer up.

Perhaps some of you folks can help me out?

I am the linux/unix administrator at my company, I spend all my time in the console all day long. I have been training a junior admin... What I really would like to be able to do is to SSH into the jr admin's remote linux machine, and then SHARE the console with him.

He sees what I type in the console, and I see what he types in the console also... it be like we both were sitting together taking turns typing on the actual machine.

Kind of like VNC, but without the GUI part.

I haven't found a way to do this yet. Logically I thought "screen" would be a good place to start. I've gotten nowhere quick.

SURELY there is a way... using default linux/unix tools... ?

Let us know how it works out if you can get something like that working. I remember a teacher of mine once was able to proxy to any system on the network and see what was being output to the screen but don't recall how he did it.

Hmm I checked out the latter.. Looks like it could work. I just find it mildly surprising that there isn't a built-in way to do this. I figured it should be a function in "screen" utility. How do other folks train their remote sysadmins?

I've found the best way to train my people is for them to sit alongside me and I am able to show them my stuff. I simply would like to do this remotely instead.

I'll give it a spin.. just wish that it wasn't necessary to hack together a script and output everything to a file... weird.

kibitz is installed by default with Slackware, for
instance, so there's no need to "hack something
together" ... :)

The method described in the second article won't
allow for interaction, the session from the remote
computer can just watch.

It's not installed by default in SuSE.. but I am checking it out now.. Thank you!
