sfdisk problem

the problem is this that one of my friend while trying to keep dual of windows & linux (after getting
frustrated with long sermons by me on why u should use linux) landed up with Hidden NTFS partition.....
& ofcourse it was blamed to poor linux ......enter A-dummy ......so just to impress him with prowess
of linux i thought to change id of Hidden NTFS with:

sfdisk --change-id /dev/hda 3 7

the command returned with 'done' ......(no error message)......trying fdisk -l /dev/hda showed that id
has changed (previously it was 17 ).....Rebooting system & going back into windows again showed no
partition??.....when I moved back to linux the id was back to 17!!!......what's the bug ???

(yeah yeah i knew that sfdisk is not meant for newbies like me but yet he was going to reinstall)
