I just compiled the 2.6.14.4 kernel for the third time tonight, which I'd rather not do again to fix this stupid annoyance of mine. Compiling the kernel took about 2 hours each time on my P3, so I'd like to actually use my computer for the rest of the night instead of letting it compile again.
Anyway, the problems I'm having are just nitpicky cosmetic problems. On the first 2 compiles, I set my CLI console to a large size, and showed the linux logo up top. And this third time I guess I forgot to change that, so its at 640x480 with no tux up top. Also, I'd like to be able to skip that confirmation on boot where it asks what screen size I would like. I just want it to be 1024x768 or 1152x864 with 256 colors without confirmation. Can I do this without compiling again?
The xterm annoyance I'm having is with two things. First, I'd like for there to be my current location and username in place of where it says "bash-3.00". It is like that on almost every other linux console I've used and I'm not sure where to fix that. It is like that in aterm too so I don't know where to look other than the aterm and xterm config files. The next annoyance is that when I use ls, the directories are the same color (black) as the files. It would be much more convenient and save some dumb mistakes if the directories and several other file types (such as un accessable ones) would have some sytax highlighting.
I'm hoping these little annoyances aren't asking too much. Like I said, simple cosmetic problems that I can live without fixing. I'm using Slack10.2.
