Set Local User Environments as Root
I was wondering if it is possible to set up a local environment remotely through SSH as root. I'll go over what I've been trying so far.
I SSH from my workstation to another with X forwarding, then switch to the user I am trying to set Thunderbird up for. If I try to open Thunderbird with the profile manager I get this:
[diamond] ~ > thunderbird -ProfileManager
X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication.
The application 'thunderbird-bin' lost its connection to the display localhost:10.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.
Clearly it is a problem with authenticating since I authenticated as root with the SSH then switched to a different user. Is there a way to get around this as I don't have the passwords for everyone in the office, only the root password for the network.
What I want to do is create a new Thunderbird account since there have been problems with the current one being used but without the hassle of needing to be at their computer to do it, reducing the amount of work they can do.
