screensaver settings.....

Ok, sorry to post a lame question like this, but for the life of me, I can't find how to set the default screensaver daemon.

Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic, I think) wants to use the gnome screensaver daemon, but the actual screensaver I've been trying to use (bouncing cows), is an "xscreensaver", so I have to stop the gnome screensaver daemon and start the xscreensaver daemon manually (I think it's a similar issue with my partners login as well - she uses KDE but her screensaver setting doesn't want to start automatically when it should)....

Can anyone point me in the right direction please as I just can think of what I need to do.....

regards

John

Ubuntu - i have no idea
Fedora i do and have .

gnome-screensaver is the one WITHOUT all the settings and controls ( edit a xml file)
and Xscreen saver it the one with the nice gui settings

start with uninstalling gnome screen saver and installing x-screensaver ( with the glx-extras)
it might auto set it up ?

Nope, now when I log in, I get the small Xscreensaver splash where I can select settings if I want to, but it doesn't seem to start at all now....

So any other ideas would be excellent to try and sort this.

I'm not a techie type, just a "user" so it's all unfamiliar ground and any assistance/guidance would be great.

regards

john
