nohup screen -S ftp

You can kill that window, open another and enter the second command. Worked on my system with RH 8.0

do a 'man screen' and look at all of your options.

Here's the ones I usually use:

ctrl-A C -> opens a new screen on top of old one
ctrl-A A -> name screen
ctrl-A " -> gives you a list of background screens to choose from
ctrl-A S -> Split screen
ctrl-A Q -> unsplit screen
ctrl-A tab -> move cursor to other screen (for split screens)
ctrl-A esc -> scrollback/copy from screen to buffer
ctrl-A ] -> paste from buffer
