saving mp3 data on another hard-drive

Hi people !
Assuming that i want to save mp3 data to another hard-drive that would be temporarily installed on my computer in order to save my 5 GB(mp3)to burn afterwards in about 20 cd .how can i do this transfer ?

BTW is it really possible to listen to MP3 format cd on your cdrom ?

Yeah that's a lot of data, what you can do is tar mp3's
assuming you put all your music in music/ directory in your /home
tar cfv my_music.tar music/
it will tar music directory into my_music.tar archive
than you can move this file into another hard-drive and untar it, I believe there is a shortcut of tar and untar on the fly
tar cvf music/ | (cd /where/to/put/it; tar xvf -)
