Unhappy RPM trouble

Hi,
Whenever i download any rpm and try installing it this is what i encounter :

[root@localhost dump]# rpm -i apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm
warning: apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e42d547b
[root@localhost dump]# rpm -iV apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm
package apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm is not installed

Any suggestions ?

I agree I think rpm -ifh <file.rpm> will work. The warning message it is giving you on the first attempt is due to the fact you didn't specify a hash check with -h. I know the rpm --help is really confusing at first but there is some mucho importado stuff in there.

I tried both of the above suggestions but this is what i get :

1) [andy@localhost dump]$ rpm -Uvh --force apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm
warning: apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e42d547b
error: can't create transaction lock

2) [andy@localhost dump]$ rpm -ifh apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm
warning: apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc2.fr.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e42d547b
error: can't create transaction lock

Is up2date running? try to shut down up2date via the little red/green applet on your panel, then try to do the installation.

The problem is far simpler -

You need to be root to install RPMs.

do "su" before trying rpm -uvh file
