Unhappy RPM not working - sends back Usage details


Hi, I trying to install an rpm on Centos7, I run the following command in the right directory,

rpm –ivh vstudio_x64_7_lin.rpm
I get back

I forgot t mention that this is an rpm for Database browsing downloaded from

Try yum. It'll handle rpm files just fine, including dependency resolution.

Thanks, yes it did the job
So just for my knowledge, what is wrong with rpm? should I stop using it with -ivh switches

Honestly I'm not sure what the issue is to be exact. The only thing that jumps out to me is the "–" in your original post is not actually a minus sign. If you copied and pasted it from somewhere, it's possible rpm doesn't understand it. See
