Restore File ?


I use Fedora Core I and accidelntly deleted thefile. Is it possible somehow to restore the file?

Get the File rpm/tar.gz and re-install.

It's not a system file. It's a .mpg file.

rpm or tar or tar.gz won't help.

If you deleted the file from the command line using rm, then you're pretty much out of luck.

If you deleted the file through a GUI (such as Gnome or KDE), then you might be able to retrieve it from the Trash Can (usually on your desktop).

I have heard there are some file recovery utilities for ext2 and maybe ext3 filesystems, but I have never used them. So I cannot vouch for them or even offer names; perhaps a search on freshmeat.net will turn up a couple.

Other than that, the only way to restore it is from a backup.
